Bridging Major Chronic Conditions for Successful Population Management

The CDC estimates that two out of every five Americans (40%) will eventually develop type 2 diabetes. Citing widespread obesity as the main cause, the CDC calls this a “diabesity” epidemic. Their advice: We must combat obesity if we are to reverse the trend toward the increase of new diabetes cases.

“Diabesity” got its name because of the close association of obesity and type 2 diabetes and medical researchers have found direct links between obesity and the onset of diabetes. People with diabesity have increased risk of heart disease, stroke, dementia, cancer, kidney failure and blindness with complications including diabetes, elevated blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol. These are usually the result of an unhealthy diet or lifestyle and many say the problem can be controlled with diet and exercise.

Diabesity is recognized as one of the greatest challenges facing employers today due to the high cost of both conditions and the significant impact on workers’ comp costs and productivity.

At this program you will:

  • Understand the link between obesity and diabetes and how this impacts employer health care, disability and productivity costs
  • Hear important learnings from an MBGH employer strategy session focused on key challenges, strategies, lessons learned and what doesn’t work
  • Learn from leading employers on ways to integrate programs, benefits and incentive strategies to more effectively manage people at risk
