“Hospital safety is now more important than ever,” said Cheryl Larson, MBGH president and CEO. “A hospital’s sustained commitment to patient safety and health care quality saves lives. By using the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, patients and their families can make the best selection for where to seek care.”

MBGH, a non-profit organization representing employer purchasers of health care, and the Leapfrog Group’s Illinois Regional Leader, annually encourages Illinois hospitals to participate in Leapfrog’s online patient safety survey.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public. Grades are updated biannually in the fall and in the spring.

“Patients in Illinois deserve to know which hospitals are safest, so they can make an informed decision to protect themselves and their loved ones when seeking care,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We’re excited to celebrate those hospitals that uphold high standards of patient care and Illinois should be proud.”
